Exploring Tofino

Tofino, British Columbia is known as ‘the end of the Canadian road’. When you’ve run out of road, you’ve arrived in Tofino. We visited Tofino recently and discovered its charm. Tofino is magical and has so much to offer. But here’s why we think you’ll love this spot. Tofino is a small town where the beaches are long, the trees are ancient, and the people are warm. Tofino will steal a piece of your heart forever. There’s a little magic in the fog and mist among the trees.

The place is drenched in the beauty of nature. Tofino sits on the edge of Pacific Rim National Park and Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. This is where you can sit and listen to the wisdom of the trees. Grab a board and venture out into the surf. Mother Nature has many lessons to share. Your favourite pair of leggings will serve you well in hiking the trails – comfort, style, and quick-drying for the misty Tofino weather.

Tofino is a town for cycling. Many of the hotels, inns and resorts have bicycles available for guests. Grab a beach cruiser and head to Long Beach, one of Canada’s most beautiful beaches. There’s a bike path that runs from town, all the way out to hotels, trails and beaches. Leave your car at your hotel and feel the wind in your hair as you pedal around town.

The residents and visitors fiercely love this gorgeous place and everything it has to offer. Those who are lucky enough to call Tofino home know that they have something special on their doorstep and take every advantage to reap the benefits. They appreciate the goods of the land and eat hyperlocal food. They have their very own brewing company in Tofino! This is a place for locavores.

There’s a sense of community in Tofino that’s palpable. Even if in town for just a few days, you will find friends in Tofino. The people are warm and inviting – everyone is welcome into the fold. There are particular places where you’ll sense this – be it the beach or the centre of town. Just outside of town, you’ll find Live to Surf. The lot surrounding the shop is a community hub with food trucks, stores, cafes and a yoga studio! The pulse of Tofino is felt here in this space.

Tofino values the makers, the shakers, and the doers. You’ll find unique restaurants like SoBo and others where chefs are proud to showcase their local, Vancouver Island suppliers. There’s Merge: An Artisan Collective where artists have come together to showcase their wares and create space to work and collaborate. This is a town that creates space for those who have something wonderful to contribute.

If you go, stay at the Ecolodge at the Tofino Botanical Gardens located on 12 acres of waterfront gardens. It’s a comfortable option for the conscious traveler. They offer a lush white robe in your room, and warm homemade muffins every morning. Plus, you have access to the gorgeous gardens during your stay.
